PLANTATION
Our company currently has four plantations of Arundo donax (cane) totalling a cultivated area of 103 hectares. They are directed since 2006 by agronomist Paul Nacaratto who, since joining our staff, has set new standards in high production ecologic farming.
The cultivation system used is in rows separated by alleys between 6 and 10 meters wide, depending on the age of the plantation. Irrigation is done via Californian type and uses drip irrigation. For this we have bore holes 180 to 200 meters deep.
To fertilise the soil, only organic and natural products are used, (vermicompost or goat manure) and not any pesticides, herbicides or agrochemicals are used. The sun and the land of Mendoza do the rest, determining factors to achieve this excellent raw material whose main characteristic is its special sound and unique yellow colour.
The harvest takes place in winter during frost period when the sap has completely fallen. The cane is harvested by hand and with scissors only after the second cycle of life. Then they rest for a few months until the moment the leaves are removed and are passed to sunny, where they are exposed to sunlight for 30 days subject to continuous rotations until we get a uniform yellow varnish.
