Ian Morgan

Ian Morgan is a graduate of the University of Melbourne Conservatorium with B Mus and MMus degrees. He was Principal Clarinet with the Australian Youth Orchestra and a Commonwealth winner of the ABC Concerto  and Vocal Competition (Young Performers’ competition) before  being appointed Associate Principal and Eb clarinet in the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. His performing career included concertos and guest  appearences with many Australian Orchestras. As an active chamber musician he performed regularly with several ensembles . He has given many recitals and radio broadcasts. Studies abroad were with Jack Brymer, Thea King and John McCaw in London , William Stubbins at Ann Arbor (USA) and Alois Heine in Salzburg.
Retirement from the Melbourne Symphony in 2002 has allowed the development of a lifelong interest in teaching with appointments at several of  tertiary music departments.
Ian has had a long association with the AMEB in Victoria as an examiner, syllabus writer, Director of AMEB (Vic) and chair of the woodwind advisory panel.
Ian has also been a Director of  the MSO, President of the Clarinet and Saxophone Society of Victoria and Organiser of the Melbourne International Festival of Single Reeds in 2005.
